Digital Library 101: Browse, Check Out, and Download!

Description: Learn how to browse, check out, and download OverDrive media. At the end of this course, staff should feel comfortable answering basic questions about your library's Virtual Branch.
Duration: 1.5 hours.
Who should attend: All staff.
Collection Checklist: 10 Steps to a Successful Download Collection
Monday, August 10th at 3:00 PM EDT. Access Code: 7301070.
Description: With this collection checklist, you'll be quickly up to speed with online purchasing through OverDrive's Content Reserve 'Marketplace'. Best of all, you'll learn how to attract patrons to your Virtual Branch by creating an exciting and easy to maintain download collection.
Duration: 1 hour
Who should attend: Project Coordinators, Selectors, Technical Support Staff.

Registration: Registrants must contact INFOLINK via email (Carol: carol@infolink.org or Misun: lyu@infolink.org) or call at 732-752-7720 to sign up for the workshops. This will be on a “First come” basis.

Five following courses are scheduled: Collection Checklist (9/9); Browse, Check Out, and Download! (9/10); Community Outreach (9/15); Real-Time Reports (9/24); Patron Assistance (9/30)

Each session -- via ReadyTalk -- uses online web sharing and telephone conferencing.

Each session can accommodate 96 participants.

Eligible participants are library staff in current ListenNJ participating libraries.

Review the topics, dates, times and determine who on staff needs training “first time around” or as a refresher.

Do the conference connection testing to determine your workstation has the required capabilities for the training. It is vital to do the test several days in advance.
1. Collection Checklist
- Wednesday, 9/9 at 11:00 am (ET, 1 hour)

- Thursday, 9/10 at 11:00 am (ET, 1.5 hour)
- Description: Learn how to browse, check out, and download OverDrive media. At the end of this course, staff should feel comfortable answering basic questions about your Virtual Branch.
- Who Should Attend: All Staff
- Limited to 30 attendees
3. Community Outreach
- Tuesday, 9/15 at 11:00 am (ET, 1 hour)
- Description: Learn creative techniques for introducing new patrons to your OverDrive download library. We'll showcase promotional ideas from high circulating libraries, plus you'll have a chance to share your own examples.
- Who Should Attend: Project Coordinators; Community Outreach and Marketing Staff
- Limited to 30 attendees
4. Real-Time Reports
- Thursday, 9/24 at 3:00 pm (ET, 1 hour)
- Description: We'll showcase reports which will best track circulation, new patrons, site traffic, and popular titles. Your team can then use these online reports to gauge how your Virtual Branch is doing, and track a path to future success.
- Who Should Attend: Project Coordinators, Administrators, Selectors, Technical Support Staff
- Limited to 15 attendees
5. Patron Assistance
- Wednesday, 9/30 at 11:00 am (ET, 1 hour)
- Description: We'll help take your understanding of OverDrive download media to the next level so you can share your knowledge through support and training. We'll review frequently asked questions, support tips, and online help resources.
- Who Should Attend: Project Coordinators; Technical Support, Community Outreach, Training, and Public Service Staff
- Limited to 30 attendees

CONFERENCE SETUP:
Please complete all steps below.
The training will be conducted using ReadyTalk,
which uses online web sharing and telephone conferencing.
Step 1: Conference testing and setup (at least one day prior to conference)

Test Connection: Please test your connection prior to the conference here: www.readytalk.com. Locate the 'Join a Meeting' box, and click 'Test your Computer'. A dialogue box will be displayed. If your computer is setup properly for the conference, you’ll see two green dots. If not, two red dots will be displayed with instructions for the Java install.

Screen resolution: The conference is best viewed using a screen resolution of 1024x768.

Internet connection: OverDrive recommends using a hard line Internet connection rather than a wireless connection.

Audio connection:
A) A speaker phone is recommended for the audio conference.
B) If your location wishes to attend but cannot dial in due to limited phone lines, please contact your OverDrive Project Manager for additional information.

Location: For the benefit of others on the call, please choose a quiet location for your training.
Step 2: Web Conference Login

Make a note of the ReadyTalk access code listed in this email for the date and time you are attending (from 'Conference Details').

Login to the conference 10-15 minutes before the training is due to start.

Locate the 'Join a Meeting' box. Enter the access code: 5736008.

Next, Ready Talk will display the 'Participant Registration' screen. Please enter your information as prompted, and our staff will send follow-up information after the call.
Step 3: Audio Conference Login (required for audio)

Make a note of the ReadyTalk access code listed in this email for the date and time you are attending (from 'Conference Details').

Dial the appropriate number from your touch-tone phone.
